Last Saturday night, the producer-creator died., My partner for the last 8 years., And my mentor is probably for life., Danny Farren.
Danny produced with meBabniks , That unequivocally wouldn't have happened without him.
And this is where I want to tell you about the first time I saw him..
**
After film school, I wrote for six months an idea about a series about 4 Yeshiva Guys. Masses of pages, That then became a document that I thought would be an amazing thing. I sent it to a lot of producers and production companies., And for months I got something between complete disregard for indifferent negatives.. A friend told me about a producer who just sold his company., Danny Farren. Unlike the rest., He was not Tel Aviv but in Neve Ilan, And I decided I wasn't sending an e-mail but taking the car and driving there.. In the huge parking lot of Neve Ilan, I arrest the first person called Liddy and ask him where Danny Farren's office is.
“Why do you need him??” The man says.
“I have an idea for a series and I wanted to propose to him.” Answered.
“Good series?”
“I think so.. About Shabbanikim”.
“Babniks? Get the papers.. I'm Danny Farren.”
I handed him a nylon with 5 Pages and dveds of a final film.
Two hours later., I got an e-mail telling me we were going to do it.
**
It's hard to understand what's going through the brain of 2 People, Danny and I..., That for five years you go from a broadcast body to a broadcasting body and you get not on their idea. I don't wish anyone to experience the status that a bunch of people you value are telling you that”You don't have anything on your idea.. That's not interesting.. It's not innovative.. There's been a way out of this.. Leave, Get us something else.”
And the only reason I didn't break down and leave this profession is because after every meeting like this,, Danny would tell me “Leave, They don't understand anything.. I, Danny, I promise you we'll have five seasons.!!! Forget everything, I'm inviting you to hummus.”
It's hard to explain how much I owe this Jew..
**
I say Jew., Because it's his best extract.. He had a warm and loving Jewish heart. Even though he did huge series, Telenovelas, Clocks & Clocks, He had a place to do little things. , That maybe they didn't give him a dime., And maybe even losses., But to him they were the things he's in the profession for.
Danny took me from film school and raised me as a creator.. And not just me.. He loved working with young people.. And even though on our second date in his office,, {Apparently it also happened with other screenwriters and directors throughout 50 Year}, , He sat on his leather chair like a sheriff and opened: “It's important to me that you know where you're going. : This is where I decide everything.!!!!”. However, – The practice gave me the greatest freedom a producer gives the creator.
**
They wrote about him in which Aitam the producer died. “Legendary”. And I thought about what makes a man {Pretty low even…} Be “Legendary”? Because that word characterizes him the most.. And I think Agady's a man who lives big., And we will not give in to the dictates of reality.. ,Danny's most accurate description. There was nothing that turned him on in the world anymore., From someone telling him about an idea for a series he loved. “That's not a good idea., Won't happen” . Because when he believed in something,, He went against the whole world and made it.
**
And here's something else that makes people bind.:
Picture, Down, Danny and I are sitting in a Jerusalem café. {He insisted that I take him every time to a new café that opened., “Take me where the young people are going.”}, 6 Hours before the premiere of Shabbanikim.
Danny goes through the notes Thank you for being supposed to read above the stage and only take care of one thing with me :
“Eliran, Most importantly, Parents. You mention your parents., Only full names and they're the first ones okay.!!!”.
I got a mentor for life..
Love you, Danny.
